Former Delray Beach police chief heading to the classroom
Former Police Chief Larry Schroeder is changing jobs. But to many, the 30-year veteran of the department will always be 'the chief.'
'We are going to call him chief,' said Atlantic High School Principal Kathleen Weigel - his new boss. 'He's not leaving the city, he's just relocating his office.'
Schroeder, 51, will begin teaching at the high school's Criminal Justice Academy later this month. He retired Monday.
'I never gave it a thought I would be teaching,' Schroeder said. 'But the school agreed to hire another teacher and they were hoping for a retired police officer. I called and asked if they would consider me.'

Grand theft charges refiled against former pastors at St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic Church
Just as the Palm Beach County State Attorney's Office promised, grand theft charges have been refiled against the Revs. John Skehan and Francis Guinan, former pastors of Delray Beach 's St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic Church.
In February, prosecutors dropped charges accusing the two longtime priests of funneling hundreds of thousands of dollars from church coffers. At the time, State Attorney Barry Krischer said the decision was a tactical one made because neither the state nor the defense was ready for trial, which had been scheduled that same month. In the interim, attorneys on both sides have continued to prepare their cases and taken sworn statements from potential witnesses.
