Delmar Rotary Club sponsors exchange students
The Delmar Rotary Club is sponsoring the exchange of culture, education and ideas by supporting local foreign exchange students. Erika Kristiana, a student from Indonesia, spoke to the Delmar Rotary Club at the group’s breakfast meeting at the Normanside Country Club on Wednesday, June 18. She discussed her year in the Capital District and presented a slideshow. She has been in the area 11 months and will now be returning home.
The town has announced that Elsmere Avenue will be closed “for at least three days” between Maple Avenue and Kenwood Avenue starting on Tuesday, July 8. Bethlehem names Patricia Parsons new court clerk
In a unanimous decision the Bethlehem town board appointed Patricia Parsons its new court clerk during its Wednesday, June 25, town board meeting.
The current long-time court clerk, Barbara J. Hodom, is set to retire on Friday, July 18, from the post she had held for three decades. Parsons has already begun training for the position and working at Bethlehem Town Hall.
She is leaving a job as an administrative assistant from Albany County’s general services department and said she was honored to be selected by town justices Ryan Donovan and Paul Dwyer.
Delaware Avenue in Delmar, Verstandig’s Florist presented its plans for a new building at its Creeble Road location in Selkirk. At the Tuesday, June 17, meeting, the Bethlehem Planning Board heard owner Bob Verstandig’s plans to build a 3,968-square-foot building to house his offices, as well as retail and wholesale plant materials. He is planning to sell the Delaware Avenue location to Keystone Builders, which is proposing to build 40 condominiums on the site. Verstandig also laid out his plans for going “green,” but he wasn’t talking about his shrubs.
During the Town of Bethlehem’s Planning Board meeting on Tuesday, June 17, the McCormick’s Hollow Subdivision plan for a multi-use pathway was accepted by the board, at which time Chairman Parker Mathusa stressed that there “is an interest on the planning board to have this done.” The multi-use pathway would help clear up construction that has been left unfinished for more than a year on North Street when construction on a proposed subdivision was abruptly halted. Surveyor Paul Hite, who presented the revised plan, outlined the details of the multi-use path and the addition of 5-foot islands in the middle of the sidewalk with trees and benches for landscaping. Mathusa outlined a potential schedule where work on the walkway would be started by Aug. 1 and finished by Oct. 1. The board unanimously approved the document.
