DNR: Lake Peigneur gas release safe
“The DNR completely disregarded all the statements and testimonials that area residents provided about the incident.”
A loud release of natural gas at Lake Peigneur, where an Atlanta-based company stores natural gas in salt dome caverns, was not a threat to people living nearby, according to the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources.
The release occurred on Jan. 29 after a power outage at the Jefferson Island Storage and Hub facility, which is owned and operated by AGL Resources.
Inspections of the facility found 'that the facility's blowdown system performed as designed,' James H. Welsh, DNR's commissioner of conservation, wrote in a recent letter to Iberia Parish officials. Read more
