The hatchery contributes to the steelhead fishery of the entire Snohomish River system. This includes both tibal and sport fisherman. To stop planting hatchery fish on the Snoqualmie would reduce the fishing opertunity by half. The take of wild fish in tribal nets would increase. If the Snoqualmie is to go all wild, then the entire system should go wild with no fishing for ten years. If it is a science projet that the Department wants let it be that, but where will the money come from, no fishing licence revenue or fish in the tribes nets. Hatcheries were implemented years ago because wild stocks were being fished down. Modify hatchery rearing to inhance wild fish and provide ample numbers of fish for both the tribes and the sport fisherman.
