What an insulting headline.
Dr. Osguthorpe was more than a "dairyman" and his legacy is greater than anything the Park Record or its staff will ever contribute. |

Not sure what elitist world you live in Pete. But being labeled a legendary dairyman in Park City is certainly not an insult. You idiot!

There's nothing insulting about being called a dairyman, but when that is the least of your accomplishments it's called "damning with faint praise." Dr. Osguthorpe did SO much more that it is indeed insulting for the headline to reduce his legend to one secondary aspect of his life. It's analogous to having Harry's Truman's obituary headline read, "Missouri Haberdasher Dies". I have been a frequent critic of Patrick Parkinson, but in this instance I think he did a wonderful job of conveying the richness of Dr. Osguthorpe's life and the value and far-reaching effects of his efforts on behalf of the community. But whoever writes the headlines for the Park Record should be run out of town on a rail, pointed in the direction of the nearest school of journalism.. |

For a look at the way a REAL newspaper announced the passing of Dr. Osguthorpe, check out the NYT article (headline" Delbert Osbuthorpe, 88, Early Voice for Environment, Dies")(note to Park Record: mention the person's NAME in the headline, and focus on one BIG achievement, i.e. NOT the dairy business): http://www.nytimes.com/2009/06/14/us/14osguth...
As I said before, I think Parkinson's article was excellent, but doesn't the Park Records have ANYONE on staff who knows how to write a headline? Even for an obituary??? |

What an amazing individual! Park City wouldn't be what it is with out Dr. Osguthorpe or the Legacy that he has left here in PC. His son and family are still farming today in PC. D.A. Osguthorpe was a man of his word and you always knew how he felt about you or any issues. I admire people that have the values that the Osguthorpe Family has and I truly appreciate the hard work and dedication that the family shows with farming, lifestyle, work, etc. Thanks D.A. "Doc" Osguthorpe for all you have done for PC and keeping open space a priority!
