Arboretum looking for volunteers
The staff at Crosby Arboretum is looking for as many volunteers as they can to help with a number of events, activities and regular maintenance that takes place at the site.
A University of Southern Mississippi professor and two of his students are hoping their research on children's sleep patterns will awaken parents to a problem many believe affects only adults.

The decline of the South Mississippi lumber boom left cut-over, near barren land and unemployed men. In 1930/31, philanthropist L.O. Crosby Jr. (extreme left) decided to give these men work.
He purchased cut-over land near Picayune and paid former woodsmen to drain, clear and to lay out and plant 5-acre tracts of strawberries.
As the Depression progressed there was little demand for strawberries, but Crosby kept the men working and paid. In 1945 the farm was reforested with slash pine from the Forest Service at Wiggins. Read more
