The tractors were going "full On" this morning. Woke me up early. Wonder if that had any part if it.
I also wonder what the deal is with the quarry. Do they own the land? Is is leased from the city and are we getting a fair deal, or was it one of the "good old boys" agreements. Sometime the dust that spreads out into the air and lungs, and onto the cars, causes me some concern. Seems like a good business though; just would like to know more. |

Mr. Syar,
Just another instance of green destruction, like your concrete truck which took out the windshield on my Explorer a few years back. Thanks for taking care that though. The view coming up Columbus to the South is breathtaking. A whole mountain torn apart. Lovely. Who did you pay off for the right to do this. Terry? |

Dear Mr. Keenan:
The property that the Syar Quarry is on has been owned by the business for years and years. Long before the city started moving east across what was then Hwy 40, now Interstate 80. Don't mind questions but the insinuations about the ethics of a company that has been a good part of this city for years was wrong. |

Syar has been digging into the hillside for a very long time. They have a good safety record and employ several people. I really hope the "greenies" and anti business crowd don't start a rampage to shut the place down because it made a big noise.

I don't think I was insinuating anything about the "ethics of a company", but there could be many possiblities and questions about land rights, leases, environmental impact reports, etc. Like I said; "just wanted to know more". It's good to see a busy business in Vallejo. Thanks |

Morons! Stop looking to chase industry out of town.

I was at my desk in Vallejo on the second floor of the building. It was like the sound of an earthquake without the jolt. NO ONE else felt it.
Glad I was not imagining it :) |

Sam said he felt it at the Library... Come to think of it Marina, Ex VIB also said they felt it at the Library, ironic

I was told by a retired MI worker that there is highly toxic and worse crap burried in cement vaults on Mare Island. Stuff taken out of nuclear subs... This should be checked out because people live on the island .If this is not the case will the mayor say it's safe and no damage was done and and that there is nothing to worry about. Also check your home foundation and roadways around Syar for new cracks...

According to Bartee's report at the end, thousands of cubic yards of contaminated soils are being excavated just North of my neighborhood, but I have not seen any of the usual complainers protesting that toxic dust that "might" be in the air. Same thing with when they turned a whole cement building into a pile of gravel on the other side of the neighborhood a couple years ago.

Not only does that quarry look awful, it makes noise that can be heard all through the night from miles away. I don't know how they can legally make that level of noise, but it seems if you're connected into Vallejo's good old boy network, you can get away with anything. I wonder how much crap we breathe in from that mess.

To all you Syar haters, they have been there for years...50+, long before Terry. They were there LONG before the homes were built in that area. I used to live in a home up on Doral Ct., on a hill, directly across Columbus Pkwy from the quarry. I was a lifelong Vallejoan, so when my neighbors (imports from other communities)complained about the blasting, I had to remind them that this business had been there for many years prior to the home building, and they should have explored that before they bought their homes there. When that business went in, there was virtually nothing out there. It is a good solid business, that does not play into the good old boy network. People, before making complaints and accusations, do your homework. Also, they have employed many people from Vallejo, and are great employers and huge supporters of the community.

Please read my comment below. Syar was in business LONG before Terry was in politics, and, when they started there was nothing out there...the home building infringed on their right to conduct their business...I know, I was born and raised in Vallejo, and lived across from the quarry for 7 years...it's not that bad. |

same thing with the people that bought homes on mare island and then bidtch about the zoning out there they do not like.
