The John Swett High School concert band will premiere "A Dauntless Soul," an original, three-movement piece by William Camphouse celebrating the life of naturalist and author John Muir, as part of the school districtwide annual Spring Concert.

Trustees of the tiny, cash-poor John Swett school district must soon decide what to do about the district's middle school, which has been identified as seismically unsound in a district-commissioned engineering report.

No one was injured in a 5-acre brush fire off the eastbound 80 Freeway near Pinole Saturday, authorities said.

The fire, which was reported to the California Highway Patrol around 3:49 p.m., forced crews to close a far left lane as they battled the blaze, which burned between 3 and 4 acres west of Crockett on a grassy hillside near a neighborhood, according to the Rodeo-Hercules Fire District.

It may surprise you that all of this sound comes from a trio, and the trio is from Crockett, California.
