As many dedicated sportsmen and women of the Lakeshore area have learned, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is considering several major changes to the deer hunting season starting in 2010.

SHINE (Serving Him in the Needy and Elderly) will be having a Halloween Extravaganza Party for young children on Saturday, Oct. 24 from 12 to 4 p.m. at St. Anne Parish, 228 E. Main St., Coleman. Children ages zero to 5th grade are invited to attend, as there will be a visit to a haunted house, a hay ride, games, and lunch with punch. Come dressed in a costume. A party for sixth to 12 graders will be held from 8 to 11 p.m., with an optional lock-in event scheduled from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. There will be a haunted house visit, a hay ride, games, pizza and soda. A permission form from a parent or a legal guardian must be signed in order to participate in the lock-in. A hunter who owns property in Crivitz says his trail camera pictures are proof the wolf population might be larger than what the state says it is.

The issue of a liquor license application from Vito Congine, Jr. for a bar and supper club/Italian restaurant he had hoped to open in Crivitz appears to be laid to rest, at least for now.

Six people representing North Trail Riders attended the Wednesday, Oct. 7 Marinette County Highway Committee meeting to ask that County Trunk A be opened from Eagle River Road east to the intersection of County A and C in the Town of Athelstane.

David Keup, sports correspondent The M & M Timberjacks decided to set the tone right away in their Wisconsin State Football League match-up in Menominee with the Bay Area Vipers, and they never looked back as they trounced their league foe 31-6 to improve to 2-0 in league play on the young season. After forcing a three-and-out on the game’s first possession, the T’Jacks went to the air against an eight to nine-man front and scored on their second offensive play, and they never trailed in the contest. Dennis Harris and Andrew Janssen hooked up on a 50-yard touchdown after a 10-yard run from Zak Shutte, and Matt DeGrand’s extra point made it 7-0 in favor of the Marinette-Menominee team with over 12 minutes to play.

River City moved the ball over the course of the game but suffered through six fumbled snaps - two over the punter's head and four over the quarterback's head. The Timberjacks also took advantage of a pair of Rattler interceptions in the victory. River City returns to action Saturday night as the Rattlers travel to play the Green Bay Vipers at 7 p.m.
