We should all understand that if School District #2142 is dissolved because of a failure of the bond referendum that we will be paying the tax level of the surrounding districts as that is where your children will be going to school.
This rate is much more per $100,000 home than the reorganized rate for District #2142.($176/100,000)
Taxes For a $100,000 Home:
Mesabi East:$289
Ely:$251
Virginia:$326
Do the math: Virginia school district:
$150/$100,000 extra compared to School District #2142. For a $500,000 home in the area.($750 extra per year on your taxes if your kids go to Virginia above what you would have paid)
My crystal ball says in the dissolution scenario that Tower will have no school at all and will likely be the same for the other communities in this district.
There is not a solution that is great for everyone but one that is financially responsible and a workable compromise considering the student numbers in the various areas.
The school board has presented that solution and seeing no better alternatives,
let's move on now.

Yes, let's move on. I can foresee my children receiving a better education (at a higher cost, which I'm willing to pay if need be) at a neighboring district.
It's easy to be happy, Cotton resident, when your child(ren) aren't being sent to a rival's turf -- another old school that isn't any better than your own -- but instead are getting a shiny, new school that is acceptably close to home. Kudos to you for being The Bigger Person and accepting that fate.
