Corry man charged in assault on brother

A city man faces assault and endangerment charges after police accused him of beating his brother with a baseball bat and spitting on police officers Friday. Garrett A. Birkmire, 26, of the 700 block of West Washington Street, is in the Erie County Prison on $30,000 in bonds today after he was arraigned by Corry District Judge Brenda Nichols on two sets of criminal charges.

Erie land bank report expected soon

A consultant's analysis of whether establishing a local land bank could help effectively combat blight and manage troubled and vacant properties throughout the region is expected by the end of September. Kim Green, the Erie Redevelopment Authority's executive director, said the report from John Kromer, a senior consultant at the University of Pennsylvania's Fels Institute of Government, is expected to be comprehensive, providing recommendations about how a land bank could be structured and financed, as well as information about how land banks work in other cities.

Sharon man jailed on attempted homicide charge

A Sharon man was jailed on an attempted homicide charge after state police accused him of firing several shots at a residence Saturday in Troy Township, Crawford County. James Parsons, 23, was arraigned before Saegertown District Judge Lincoln Zilhaver on charges of attempted criminal homicide, aggravated assault, discharge of a firearm into an occupied residence and other offenses.

Corry man charged in fatal ATV crash

State police have charged a Corry man in an all-terrain vehicle crash in May that killed a Union City woman. Joshua M. Smith, 23, was arraigned late Tuesday afternoon by Titusville District Judge Amy Nicols on 13 charges, including homicide by motor vehicle while driving under the influence, DUI and operating an ATV at an unsafe speed.
