Leave fireworks to the professionals

Along with the long hours of daylight and the presence of abundant sunshine, there are at least two other surefire signs that summer officially has arrived in East Multnomah County: the faint smell of smoke hanging in the air and the pained whimpers of pets whose ears are bombarded by the zips, sizzles and pops coming from Fourth of July fireworks.

One close race for an East County school board seat is over, and another is tied and heading for a recount Tuesday, June 9. Gresham-Barlow Dan Chriestenson has narrowly defeated John Eddy Hall for position 7, at large, on the Gresham-Barlow School District board in the May 19 special election.
