Water restrictions in Coral Springs leave coffers dry, prompt rate increase
Forcing homeowners to cut back on their water usage because of the drought proved too successful. Now the city needs more money to run the water system.
So far this year, the city is $188,000 in the hole, said David Russek, the city's director of financial services. And if summer rains cause people to water their lawns even less, 'That works against us,' he said.
City commissioners this week tentatively approved an 8.75 percent increase in sewer and water rates, effective July 7. Final approval is expected June 17.
