The Conders of Locust Drive: Nice neighborhood with some elbow room
“We wanted a smaller, unpopulated area to raise our daughter, a place where we could get to know our neighbors.”
News-Democrat Jan and Mark Conder were living in Belleville's Villa Madero subdivision 18 years ago when they decided to look for a place in the country. They chose Southridge, then a new Shiloh subdivision, to build their three-bedroom ranch with a finished basement.
'The brick we chose is called rose range tudor. You have to love the names of things,' said Jan.
Theirs was one of two homes on Locust Drive. Most of the street was still wooded with locust, persimmon and oak trees.
The neighborhood grew and their daughter Katherine, now 18, made friends nearby. These days, some neighbors have grown children. Others are young parents who they see walking by as their children ride bicycles. Read more
