Verizon Communications Inc. has decided to target Buffalo as the first upstate New York region to get its cable television offering.
The service, known as FiOS TV, is run through Verizon's fiber-optic network, called FiOS. It is designed to compete with cable TV and satellite TV, but to date Verizon has offered FiOS TV only in suburban New York City and Long Island.
The company already has built a FiOS network in the Capital Region suburbs of Bethlehem, Colonie and Guilderland. Here, it offers only high-speed Internet and telephone service.
