Friday is the last scheduled day of the school year for students in Montgomery County Public Schools.

A bruising storm system raced through the heart of Montgomery County and counties to the east Thursday afternoon, generating at least one tornado and downing trees and power lines.

June 13, 2013, 8:13 p.m. - After two days of warnings from forecasters predicting a derecho-like storm hitting the Mid-Atlantic , the most severe weather arrived in Prince George's County just after 4 p.m. Thursday.

At least two tornadoes were part of a line of brief but severe late afternoon thunderstorms that marched through Maryland Thursday, knocking out power to thousands.

Strong winds and a reported tornado that passed through Colesville shortly before 4 p.m. Wednesday left a trail of damage in their wake, including a toppled tree outside the Greek Islands Grill on New Hampshire Avenue.

The National Weather Service says a tornado has been reported in Montgomery County, just north of Washington.

Parts of Anne Arundel County are under a tornado warning. The warning, effective through 4:30 p.m. includes northwestern parts of the county, including Severn and Fort Meade.
