A former Minneapolis couple who filed fake liens against public officials was sentenced Friday to nearly two years in prison after their attempt to withdraw their guilty pleas was denied.

The former Twin Cities couple charged with filing bogus liens in a $114-billion harassment scheme argued in court that their judge has been unfair and should be removed from their case.

Dr. Talley had been a resident in the rehab and memory care units at Grand Village since March 2012. Tyra was born March 18, 1922, in Lula, OK, to Dee and Opal Talley. He was the eldest of eight children. The family lived for a time in Pasadena, TX, until returning to rural Allen, OK. Tyra worked as a baker in a CCC camp. He met Janette at Ottawa Baptist University in 1941, and they were married March 12, 1943, at Brooklyn Baptist Temple, Brooklyn, NYC. He graduated that same day as a hospital corpsman from the US Maritime Service Hospital Corps School at the Sheepshead Bay Training Station, and they parted a week later after he received orders for New Orleans. After the war Tyra worked in Oklahoma and Kansas for Dunn & Bradstreet and Montgomery Ward. In 1952 Tyra was ordained in the Colfax Baptist Church in rural Chanute, KS. In his pastoral career he served Baptist and Presbyterian churches in Kansas, South Dakota, Minnesota, Montana, North Dakota, Wyoming, and Wisconsin, and he was director of the Central SD Mental Health Center in Huron, SD. Tyra received a Doctor of Education degree in psychology from the University of South Dakota. He was a licensed psychologist, and marriage and family therapist. One of Tyra's particular honors was to participate in the International Symposium on Recent Developments in the MMPI in Mexico City which reviewed the Spanish translation of the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI). Following retirement, Tyra and Janette made their home in Grand Rapids, MN, on the banks of the Mississippi River. He fished his stretch of the river daily, and had a faithful, seasonal following of ducks and geese. Circumstances took them to Bismarck, ND, rural Mandan, ND, Lawrence Lake in Minnesota, Janesville, WI, and Pewaukee, WI, before they returned to the Grand Rapids area in 2012. Tyra will be remembered as a preacher, pastor, poet, teacher, presbyter, psychologist, cowboy, Indian, hunter, fisherman, and extraordinary story-teller. His quick smile, sharp wit, gracious manner, lovely mind, and his patient love will be greatly missed. Our tables and our lives will be greatly diminished by his absence. Dr. Talley is survived by his four children: Mischelle Binder, Coleraine, MN; Dee (Kelly), Elm Grove, WI; Arlin (Carolyn), Bovey, MN; and Doug, St. Paul, MN (Chris Raso-Talley, Duluth, MN); eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; four sisters and three brothers. He was preceded in death by his wife, Janette Christensen Talley. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, April 6, 2013, at Lawron Presbyterian Church in rural Bovey, MN. Pie and coffee will be served following the service.
