The Panther Valley School Board approved Adam Webber's request Tuesday to extend the KOEZ status of the old Panther Valley Middle School property with a vote of 5-3. Director Anthony DeMarco was not present at the special meeting.

Tamaqua man sentenced for pushing friend down mine pit

Richard D. George, 24, of Tamaqua, was sentenced Thursday in Schuylkill County Court to serve 11 to 22 months in the county prison in Pottsville on charges relating to him pushing a Tamaqua man into the 700-foot-deep pit of the Lehigh Coal and Navigation Company last August in Coaldale.
