A man is in custody for attempting to kill a police officer with the officer's own gun during a struggle this evening in the village of Clinton, police said.

Scanner traffic indicated a man had a gun and shot at an officer before being arrested at 703 Carol St., Clinton.

City workers removing a tree from a terrace discovered it was infested, according to a city of Beloit news release.

City Forestry Operations Supervisor Mike Ferger said the infested tree was located on LaSalle Street and was identified by the city's forestry crew during a scheduled removal of the tree.
