Spinning, like all handcrafts, was developed to meet basic needs of survival in a harsh environment.

From Robert Julyan's "The Place Names of New Mexico," I learned that Claunch is in Socorro County.

My wife's mother was born in Carizozo in 1923. A few years later the family moved to Texas and eventually migrated to Northern California during the Great Depression.

The Frost family, Duane and Shelly Frost, and their sons Dal and Rankin, from Claunch, N.M., and formerly of Grant County, was named the 2009 New Mexico Farm and Livestock Bureau Family of the Year at the organization's 92nd annual meeting in Albuquerque.
