I graduated with Shawnta and cannot believe that she is dead. I went to school wih her and she was one of the smartest, coolest, people I have ever known. I knew her husband and the suspect as well. I am very surprised. Shawnta and Garland Watts were among the top popular people in school. He excelling in sports and academically and she academically. Shanwta will be greatly missed and I pray for her mom Stella, it's a tragedy. People need to think about what they're doing before resorting to such nonsense.Clairton has truly gotten crazy.

I am Shawnta's cousin-in-law (Donna Moore's Husband), and like her siblings – Shawnta was more of a niece to me (they affectionly call me Uncle Jesse), as I have been a part of her life since she was a young teen-ager.
Like so many kids growing up in Clairton, Shawn had to go through so many trials and errors - but she blossom into a wonderful example of determination and endurance for those all around her. Shawn overcame so much: from fatherless child – false imprisonment – to respected medical professional – to loving adoptive parent, Shawn transcended herself into a beckon of hope for many people – young, old, black and white.
Although there are so many of her sorrows and triumphs that most others would never know, Shawnta, like her family, have always allowed love and kindness, to be their unyielding characteristic and generational trademark. To see the interaction of her family, from Grandma Louise and Aunt Muff and Aunt Henrietta; to Stella, Johnnie and Donna - they make you believe that love can still exist in our community and our families.
Shawnta will be missed for more than a lifetime. I pray that we all honor her life, by learning from the wonderful examples of love that she left for all of us.
Finally, I hope that the local police completely investigate this tragic mruder, as I see that this senseless murder, is so much more than a random act violence.
