Trojan 5K to take place on Saturday
Runners from all over the Northwest Georgia and surrounding areas are expected to converge on historic Chickamauga on this Saturday for the second annual Trojan 5K, sponsored by Whitfield Oil and the Gordon Lee Alumni Association and Foundation.
"Chickamauga" and "Chattanooga," Legacies of the Shawnee
According to premier ethnographer James Mooney of the Bureau of American Ethnology, the word "Chickamauga" was the name of at least two places within the Cherokee Nation East: a headwater creek of the Chattahoochee River in Georgia, and a river and Cherokee town near Chattanooga, but the word is not Cherokee.
