We have to get serious about treating drug addicts. Have you ever seen so many child homicides and home invasions in your life? Why don't addicts have access to state-of-art treatments like bupenorphine instead of methadone. Methadone is only a cash cow for clinics. Only rich addicts have access to bupenorphine. Drugs are disinhibitors. They make people do things they wouldn't do normally. This is not to excuse the animals that wiped out Petit's family in one fell swoop. My thoughts and prayers to Petit.

Excellent post. All very good points - treatment and education on the illegal drug issue continues to be addressed in a draconian way in the U.S. We're decades - if not centuries behind the rest of the civilized western world on this issue.

I'm still waiting to see everything come to light. The media said Mr. Petit was "brutally beaten" and yet he was out of the hospital in one day. When He then appeared on tv there was barely a mark on him. Someone who had been brutally beaten would show it, and get a longer hospital stay. His wife and daughters were tortured and raped for hours while he is merely tied up in the basement. He didn't escape after all those hours and he never really seemed all that broken up. Some things just don't add up.

I got beat up on the original thread when this happened because I was suspicious.I just found it odd that for someone so severely beatened he not only plans the funeral but shows up and cracking jokes. I thought it was sick then and still do. I don't doubt these guys did what they are charged with but I sure would not be surprised if one day 48 hrs carries a story yrs from now saying he was also arrested. Of course he wants the death penalty...dead men can't talk.

Sick sick conspiracy theories. FYI get your facts straight, Dr Petit was in the hospital for days after the murders. He was badly beaten, if any of you took the time to support his family during this time.. which you did not.

What possible reason would Dr. Petit have to murder his wife and daughters? AND - why on earth wouldn't Hayes and Komisarjevsky have pointed the finger at him in the first place? Why haven't they done so to this day? You and Eddie are just sick miserable jerks who watch too much TV and have no concept of reality. You both deserve to be "beaten up" for such assinine, stupid, ignorant, spiteful slanderous speculation.(And PLEASE, don't drag out the old "freedom of speech" argument. Slander and libel are not protected by the First Amendment and that is exactly what your blathering amounts to.)

The murders were not in the middle of the night. All three died of smoke inhalation around 9:15am while the cops were outside waiting for the donut truck to show up.

What possible reason does anyone have to murder anyone...No doubt this was a tragedy I never said it wasn't. I feel badly for the family of the deceased but I never entirely bought the Dr's story or escape. Your boyfriend serves this country so I am free to say what I think...Two years and still calling people names and being a bully...get a life woman! You my dear are not the only one who has an opinion even though you think so.

So, instead of answering my two very reasonable questions, you start whining that I am a bully and declaring that you have a "right" to your opinion. Yup - you're a genius for sure.

Think what you will but his hospital stay was short for someone who was "severely beaten". He gave a press conference early in the investigation and he had no marks on him. He was also in pretty good spirits. You need to get an understanding of "free speech". Nobody, except Petit and the other two, know if he was, or wasn't involved. It is my opinion that he was, and it's your opinion he wasn't. As for motives? Look at the history of crimes that have been committed and you'll see all sorts of disgusting motivations for heinous crimes. Do you claim to know the intimate details of their behind-closed-doors family life?

You my dear are not the only one who has an opinion even though you think so. Not to worry, I won't be bullied. I still sleep at night after I get called childish names on these forums. All we have to do is wait for all the facts to come out and one day we may see Petit heading off to jail while the fooled keep saying "but he was such a nice guy..." Before they start screaming protests they should note I said the word "may" in that sentence. At the time the story broke many others were posting similar theories and noticing his lack of injuries and his short hospital stay. We're not the only ones to perceive these oddities. In a recent news story it was being hinted that one of the perps was connecting Petit to the crime. How many men have been caught paying off murderers to do in their wives? We've seen it but people still won't accept the dark side of humanity.

God forbid someone has a different opinion. Many times the all-knowing simply respond with insults and name calling. Whether they turn out right or wrong, all they've done with their bahavior is degrade themselves and show everyone their immaturity. I never put my opinion out there as fact. I never said I was there. I simply looked at the way things appeared and I believe Petit was involved. As the saying goes "only time will tell". I guarentee that if it ever comes out that Petit was indeed involved the people who called us names and hurled insults won't come back and say they were wrong.

I feel badly for Dr. Petit. I don't believe he had anything to do with this horrendous crime, and consider those who do to be mentally unbalanced. I don't believe in the death penalty, but in this case, I could go along with it. These two guys are beyond any shot at mercy. I think they should leave Dr. Petit alone with these guys. Have them handcuffed, and give Dr. Petit a baseball bat. I do agree that the Cheshire PD had their heads up their butts while this crime was committed. As someone said, they were waiting for the donut truck, instead of taking action to end this horror. They knew these guys weren't armed.

It's coming down to name calling now? That's funny coming from someone who's over on another thread trying to lecture me on "hate speech". Seems like there's a little hypocrisy at work here.

To suspect Dr. Petit of some nefarious motives in the brutal rape and murder of his entire family, in spite of absolutely no evidence to support it, definately puts you in the lunatic fringe. What 'doesn't add up' is your lame suspicions. Sorry, but that's how I see it. That's my opinion. I thought you were a serious person on the other thread. A little evasive, but serious. Reading what you said here has changed my opinion. Let's hear your thoughts as to how Dr. Petit could be involved. Did he arrange the initial holdup of the women? The visit to the bank? Did he cut a deal when the criminals arrived at the house?? I'd really like to hear what conspiracy aficionados come up with to support their views. Please educate me.
