From speakers tucked in the trees, merry music drifts along the sidewalks. The streets resound with the cadence of horse-drawn carriages, while chartered tour buses idle off to the side.
The rustle of shopping bags, the Salvation Army bell, monologues of tour guides clad in Colonial-style garb, clatter of craftspeople, strolling carolers, the Bach Choir, sleigh bells.
Silence.
