Derrick R. Simmons, 43, of Main Street, was arrested June 6 on drug and weapons charges after a search of his house. He was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon and fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property. The second search warrant was issued for assets contained in Simmons' safe deposit box at the Five Star Bank in Wayland. The search resulted in the seizure of $31,000 of suspected proceeds from illegal drug activity. Village managers in Horseheads don't exactly have a track record for job stability, but with new manager Marc Whitney, village officials believe they have a keeper.

Marc Whitney of Cayuta, who was hired Thursday as the new Horseheads village manager, has a diverse background that will serve the village well, the mayor said.
