Vincent Smith revived his bicycle racing career last year by competing in the first Tour de Brew mountain bike race. The Catasauqua Borough Council president did well enough, finishing 20th of 30 riders who made it to the end. But the experience also gave him an idea.
Why not try a similar event in Catasauqua, with a quirky course feature, similar to the Tour de Brew?
And that is how the July 5th Tour de Pool was born. The race, the same day as the start of the Tour de France, the world's most prestigious bicycle race, will feature laps across the cement skirt of Catasauqua's swimming pool.

City man who stole from cars gets prison
One of two Allentown men who stole electronics and other objects from vehicles in Lehigh County was sentenced Wednesday to six to 131/2 years in state prison.
The sentence Dennis Englert, 39, received in Lehigh County Court will run concurrently with a prison term of 11/2 to five years in Northampton County for thefts from vehicles there.
Englert and co-defendant Zachary Danberry, 20, pleaded guilty in April to multiple misdemeanor counts of theft from a motor vehicle.
Danberry, who also was charged in Northampton County, will be sentenced in Lehigh County June 20.
