My best friend should have died on Nov. 13, 1994. I was a recent college graduate, still single and immature, and we were driving on Interstate-80 in Wyoming, heading back from a weekend of socializing in Laramie to Saratoga, a breathtaking town nestled up to the Snowy Range where I had taken my first real job at a weekly newspaper.
