Shame on Delta for not donating seats on their shabby little airline. Even with a paid ticket, Delta will find some way to ruin this trip for these family members.

Our government should be picking up the tab, with 'stimulus' funds. Better to spend it on that than the many pork barrel projects our idiots in Congress are always passing.

My god is this what we are about? Family begging for air fare to bury an American hero? The Army should provide a private plane and make a useless General travel coach for this hero.

Being a vet myself, I guess I feel I have a sense of entitlement to speak on this:

If the total cost for flights is a whopping $4000, maybe its best to explore other aveneues to get there. Amtrak...or maybe even driving. While that may take a couple days, it would still cost a lot less. Or.....have a second service there in the LA area. Lastly, it's a funeral and not a family reunion. The elderly aunt and uncle should consider sitting this one out.

Not being insensitive, just realistic. RIP fallen sister.

Extended family and probably friends too. Story is always the same, take care of us, give us, we want, we need. Hey, stop having kids!

God Bless you Mom.

My heart goes to the family, time will help, and you will figure this out too.

The government provides thousands of dollars to help offset the costs of the funerals, including transporting family members. Not to mention, if she took advantage of the life insurance the military provides, her family will receive $500,000. Something doesn't smell right about this story. My nephew was killed in Iraq and chose to be buried with honors at Arlington National. The Army ensured there was adequate compensation for west coast family to be in attendance if my nephew's family so requested. The reporter may only be writing what he/she was told. Not investigating the story is pure laziness and not journalism.

Have her buried in California, where the majority of her family resides, and where she grew up.

Sure, when you are upset over a tragic death like this, all get in a car and drive cross country in a hurry. No problem. No stress there.

When I become General of the Army or even God, I will put a provision in the contract of all men and woman who go to war for our country, that should they die in the performance of their duties for this country, that all of their family's needs including travel, will be taken care of by the military branch that they were assigned too. That's only fair.

The president of the U.S.A. should hang his head in shame for not already doing that. And don't even try to lie Mr. President, we CAN afford it.

I doubt that the VA is going to jump right up and hand the beneficiary a check for this soldiers life insurance. It will be at least six months before is clears the quagmire of bureaucrats and intellectually limited clerks who must rubberstamp every last page as it slowly rolls down the tube. And, with so many of our youth losing their lives over Bush's debacle...the backlog must be staggering.

Wow, the army is always trying to give 50,000 for college to sign u up for the army and now that one of their own has fallen, they can't afford to buy plane tickets for the family. Sad Day, thanks god I went to college, and not the Military.

Sad, if i had the money, I would donate, but I will tell others to help.

Sounds like the family is paying out of their own pocket to attend her funeral, by maxing out their credit cards. Of course, families should have "rainy day" funds, but in this ecomomy many are living paycheck to paycheck. In regards to using other forms of transportation like driving or the train, that can be just as costly by the time you calculate gas, meals on the road and hotel accomodations...they can't drive to South Dakota in one day! Plus, the extra time away from work will account for lost wages...some people don't receive personal necessity days off. Finally, the military will pay out a life insurance policy which will go to her husband and daughters, not her siblings or extended family. This is a young soldier who died serving her country. If this article compels some readers to make a donation toward Sgt. Wolf's families' travel expenses so that they can pay their final respects, then it lightens the load of an already greiving family.

Sounds fishy to me also. Like they are begging for money.

I just read that on line funerals are getting very popular. No travel at all.
