Soooo long Rich. We ain't gonna miss you. Now maybe the council can hire a city manager with some creativity and innovative ideas, a la Steve Burrell / Susan Westman.

We can all hope for fatal cardiac arrest for Rich prior to his retirement. He certainly hasthe appearance of the ideal cardiac candidate. Then, lots of $$$ will be saved as the pension will be rolled back into the system. Payouts to the widow will be significantly less.

"I'm sorry he's leaving," said Councilman Dennis Norton, but he added, "It's time for a change."

Obviously some MIXED FEELINGS over in Capitola. Don't live there, but -- every city manager allies himself with the ruling faction in local politics -- for good or ill, he has to, to keep the job. But it's not going to make friends with those not in the ruling clique -- nor should it.

He must be pretty financially secure to retire at 59 these days. Unless "retire" is just a code word for collect the pension now, work half-time as a consultant.

Hey Hill. Could you give Kirby Nicol a ride on your way out? WeŽd all appreciate it. It would save the taxpayers of Capitola some dough.

Well, like most city employees throughout the County, we'll be paying for his retirement for many years to come--most likely at 90% of his salary. Did I say greed is good! Yes, who would have thought that the greedy ones went into public service, while the smarter ones went into the corporate sector--working for slave wages to pay for these outrageous entitlements! Something is very wrong with this picture. We need a 9-11 for ordinary workers--not police, fire, and civil servants who sucked up great benefits masked under the fear of the Bush years.

With my nearly 30-years' experience as an elementary teacher, my salary is less than $68,000. I bet this guy's annual retirement is more.

Hmmm.

Thats because he made $173,000 a year and he's been in PERS for about the same time you've been in STRS. It's pretty obvious his retirement will be higher than your salary. He'll get roughly 80% of his salary. PERS offers much better retirement benefits than STRS does.
