Canton is holding its annual Summer Fun and Safety Fair ,May 31, and promises to be a day of family fun.

As the Massachusetts Senate debates a number of proposed amendments to the Fiscal Year 2014 budget this week, two measures co-sponsored by Senator Brian A. Joyce have passed that would bring more state funding to Canton.

Vegetation control programs have started in Canton along the Amtrak lines. The plan, which started May 11 and runs to June 2, will spray herbicide to prevent plants and other vegetation from dislodging or otherwise disturbing the tracks.

By the end of the month, mosquito spraying will be start in Canton. Norfolk County Mosquito Control District Director David Lawson said in a press release they will start mosquito spraying in Canton and the surrounding area on Wednesday, May 29.

The "Last Mile" will be held Thursday, May 23, at the George King Track at Canton High from 3:30-5:30 p.m. The event will benefit the OneFund Boston and will cost $5 to enter.
