CARROLTON - A truck driver who fell asleep at the wheel caused the accident that shut down the northbound lanes of Interstate 71 in Northern Kentucky for eight hours Monday morning, Carroll County police said.

An early Monday morning accident involving a tractor-trailer has closed the northbound lanes of Interstate 71 in Carroll County, a Carrollton Police dispatcher said.

The southbound lanes of I-71 remain closed this morning after a tractor-trailer overturned just after 5 a.m. at the 24 mile marker in Oldham County.
