Apparent Hit-And-Run Victim Falls From Overpass
Police and an ambulance responded Thursday shortly after 1 a.m. to a 911 call from a driver's cell phone reporting a man lying in the middle of Highway 53 at the Allen Street overpass, according to Rice Lake Police.
Officers said they arrived to find 22-year-old Dennis J. Nelson of Cameron, Wis. in obvious pain, but conscious. Nelson had apparently been injured in a hit-and-run pedestrian crash and fallen over the Allen Street overpass railing. He then fell down to northbound Highway 53, about 27 feet below.
