Eagan restaurant heading to Burnsville

A restaurant that's being pushed out of Eagan found a new home in Burnsville. City leaders last week agreed to sell a little more than half-an-acre to the Mediterranean Cruise CafA© for $165,000. In ...

I will be driving to Burnsville. This restaurant has great food, good service and belly dancers. If you have never been, it is a must.

I am excited that they found a new location as well. The food is good and it isn't that far from the old location. :)

It's probably better to get a new location! The current place is a little small! Not a lot of room to move around in there!:) I will be driving to the new place as well!!

One more reason not to go to Eagan. Nice to see that one of the owners forced to move by Eagan's mis-application of eminent domain is probably going to do OK.

I wonder....

If it was a German or Swedish or Italian restaurant would they have been pushed out without a relocation option? "Mediterranean - belly dancers..... we don't want "those" people there" (I hope THAT was not the undercurrent thought process)

A restaurant like this gives a city an ambiance (New York, Paris, etc) Eagan would just as soon have Applebees, Old Chicago, Chilli's etc. They want BIG business and to hell with the little guy. This won't be the last of just this kind of business to leave.
A good city goverment tries to keep the good businesses it has and not count on the ones it may get. I am talking about this whole Cedarvale project.

I agree wth Small Business Owner - that it was the reason. Other than letting them stay in the same location another option would have been to include a new building within the (re)development. I wonder why the city didn't consider that?

Best wishes to the Cruise!! Anyone traveling to Eagan to use the services of the Uhaul store beware. The City of Eagan went and posted no parking signs all around the U haul store, and only around the Uhaul store. And if you park there they will tow your car. Why? The owner of the Uhaul filed an appeal against the courts decision on the eminent domain and post the bond as the cort ordered. Shame on him for exercising his constitutional rights! This should teach him a lesson for challenging the Eagan city council. Question to Eagan residents: are you embarrased by your Mayor and Council?

This is great news. I am so glad that the Cruise will live on, best greek food I've ever had! If you haven't been to the original you should go before they have to move.

They had better rethink their decision to move into the Fart of the City area. The area is dead and won't get any better. Probably the biggest debacle in Burnsville's history.

Burnsville shows it's vision and intellegence while Eagan shows cheap politics. It's fantastic that Mr. Ansari will be able to continue his very successful business. Let's hope that Jerry Larson and the other business owners Eagan is forcing out are equally successful. Let's also hope that future businesses considering an Eagan location remember this and locate in other cities.

And the bowling alley. They both must have had enough cash to make the bribe worthwhile.

Yes! Not so much embarrassed as disgusted.

I live very near that area. The plans that they have for it are going to make it impossible for my neighbors and me to get out of our neighborhood, especially when the transit station opens. They have neglected the area for years, using the excuse of the traffic change that took place 28 years ago. They developed Town Centre, which is an absolute traffic nightmare, thereby delivering the final death blow to the Cedarvale area. Now they have torn nearly everything down and no new construction has started. It's like they have to wait until the last brick has been removed before they can start to build. I'm afraid that this developer will back out too and that it will sit just like it is for the next 10 or 20 years.

I applaud the Cruise for telling Eagan to stick it and moving to Burnsville. I'll be going to the new place as well.

They reportedly offered him a 6000 sq ft space with shared parking as an even trade for his current 40,000 sq ft property - including the parking lot. He told them to pound sand and went to Burnsville. They have treated this guy like crap for the past couple of years. He'll do just fine in Burnsville. It might even help invigorate the 'Fart of the City', as another poster called it.

I hope he gets $5million in a jury award from the city.

No! Please don't play that card. They forced Larson's auto out too. Larson doesn't fit the ethnic group "undercurrent".

A couple of posters nailed it:
Jensen's has the "desirable clientele" and Cedarvale Lanes has very deep wallets.

Most of the others simply got screwed by what some call visionary development. Good luck to those who lost! Hopefully you and the Rosemount victims can come out as well as the Cruise Cafe.

You're wrong man! The Arts Center will make us a DESTINATION!

(Yes, for God's sake, I'm being sarcastic!)
