Carhartt to close Glasgow facilties
Employees at two locations of an apparel industry in Glasgow were informed Friday morning that they will be losing their jobs next year.
Carhartt, a company that manufactures work wear, announced the closing of its two Glasgow facilities, a distribution center at 40 Aberdeen Drive and a sortation operation at 702 Happy Valley Road. The closures will affect approximately 100 jobs locally.
"The date for official closing has not yet been determined, but it will be in mid-March (of 2010), said Lindy Bleau, public relations spokesperson for Carhartt.
Local employees will be given the option of transferring to another Carhartt facility in Hanson north of Madisonville, which is approximately two hours away from Glasgow, Bleau said. Bleau said she was unsure how long a time frame associates would have to decide about relocating, but assumed that they would be given an ample amount of time.

Believe it or not, Beshear looks like a shoo-in
Gov. Steve Beshear is not merely the favorite in the 2011 gubernatorial race. He may be a shoo-in. Republicans, who won the office a mere six years ago, could have trouble fielding a credible candidate.

Cumberland River Cruisers Club Dinner
The Cumberland River Cruisers Club dinner was held at the park in Burkesville. Club members and their families came for a beautiful day in the park and good food. The weather cooperated by being extra nice, with the temperatures in the mid seventies and a partly cloudy sky. Club members did a nice job of organizing with plenty of ice cold drinks to go with the hamburgers and hot dogs all furnished by the club. Each member brought a dish of their own choosing, so there was a nice assortment of vegetables and desserts. After a short blessing of the meal, members and their families began passing along the picnic tables and filling their trays.
After everyone had passed through the line and ate, members sat and talked and showed their cars to others in attendance.
We had a nice time and I believe everyone that came did also. Nice job by the members that worked to make it fun and enjoyable for everyone.
Thanks!
