Norwegian Forest Cats 'special breed': Sharon Poer of...
“I love my cats anyway, so it's a great thing for me to be able to spend time with them.”
Sharon Poer had never seen or heard of Norwegian Forest Cats until she saw a photo of one in The Wichita Eagle two years ago, taken at the Wichita Cat Fancy Cat Show.
'I saw that cat's picture in the paper and fell immediately in love,' said Poer, a cat enthusiast from Mulvane who hadn't made it to the 2006 cat show.
'I thought, I really missed out being there to see that gorgeous cat.'
Poer started doing some research on Norwegian Forest Cats, also called 'Wegies,' and by the time the 2007 cat show came around, had made up her mind she wanted one. Read more

Temporary layoff sets mom back on bills

Share the Season is an annual campaign to raise money for people facing adversity. The people are not named to protect their privacy.
A 32-year-old mother of three fell behind on her bills when her home health care client had to be hospitalized in October.
'That was the only client I had,' the woman said.
Last week, she learned that her client would be released from the hospital and she'd be able to return to work as a personal assistant.
But the temporary layoff caused financial hardship for the family just as the holiday season kicked off. Read more
