IT WAS AKIN to being told I was adopted. I learned one little bit of information and was forced to rethink my entire childhood.

A Western Kansas teenager died in a one vehicle accident early today. The Kansas Highway Patrol said Amber Schmitt, 17, of Burdett died in the crash on US-283 in Hodgeman County at 12:30 a.m. Troopers said the pickup truck Schmitt was driving left the southbound lanes of the highway and rolled in the ditch.

Since the beginning of 2008, Burdett Loomis has been a very busy man. Loomis, professor of political science at the University of Kansas, has spent more than two months overseas speaking on behalf of the U.S. State Department in seven different countries.
