Summer news in the valley: nothing happening here

Family and friends unfamiliar with our valley always ask me, "What do you do there in the summer? Is there any news? Doesn't everyone leave when the heat arrives just after Easter?" I've tried to explain that population in the valley probably is pushing 30,000 and there is more news than ever before.
