Why is all this welfare going to this family? Is her "husband" a deceased war veteran, killed by a roadside bomb? Or was the provider killed or paralized in a hit and run accident? Or was she working to support her family after her husband came down with a horrible desease, and lost her job ? Or is she a non us citizen, on welfare, leading a nonproductive life with several kids, no husband and one child with a health problem, like many other families? I just don't understand!!!!!

I hear that they are looking for someone exactly like you to play Scrooge at the local theater next month.

You sound like a four year old who wants everything for himself and cares about nobody else. You know nothing about this woman or her family but yet attribute every racist stereotype you can think of. You and your jealousy are appalling.

I agree. I have reported Gary's racist, vulgar, hateful and hurtful comments to the webmaster

I am so happy that a Black family in Buffalo was choosen. Buffalo is such a racist city, and so many white people are jealous that this family got a brand new house. I am greatful that Extereme Makeover were able to make their dreams come true, and helped improve the area. I am happy National Grid will be giving them FREE electricity, they will be getting free food, I am happy that her children will have an opportunity to be successful and go to College. It saddens me to know that so many people want to see black neighborhoods fail, they want them to always be without, the city in general just doesn't care. Would the city be happy if a new house was given to a white family who lives in Amherst, NY, where both parents were professionals grossing over $200,000? The purpose of the show is to give to a DESERVING family, not a WHITE well off family. The Powell family deserved it. Exterme Makeover made the right choice. CONGRATULATAIONS Powell Family!

Why does it matter what color the family is??? This family was chosen to be blessed with a new home and who knows what good things can happen as a result? Black, White or Hispanic....who cares?

People should stop being so jealous and bitter and start being thankful for what they themselves have.

I worked on the house for the whole week and for three weeks up to the build. The impact on the neighborhood and the other homes by the volunteers was overwhelming. I will never look at the show the same again. The family is truly deserving and quite frankly, I went into this with no idea who the family was. I hope and pray that the community will continue to help one another, let's create a huge snowball effect from what was done here. All the volunteers should be extremely proud of what we have done.

I know you are feeling all good about yourself now, but when "family" crashes and burns, make sure you remember you contributed to it

There is a reason these people fell on hard times- their mother squeezed out four bastard children. They are the permanant underclass.

They will get a loan against that house, blow the money on foolish things, and they will lose that house

This show does more harm than good.
Who pays the electric bills on the new and always larger homes?
Who pays the taxes for these families?

sure, fix up their homes and help them but do it in a way they can continue to grow as people.

I'd be willing to bet there are some guidelines they'll have to follow, such as signing a legal document that they CANNOT take out a mortgage on it or sell it. There almost HAS to be something to protect themselves!

Not unless those are new rules. This has already happened to several people

Let me explain some Sociology when it comes to "class". When most people think of what "class" someone is, they think wealth or income.

Class is less about MONEY and more about TIME and how people look at TIME.

“Upper Class” people focus on the PAST; the accomplishments and wealth achieved by their ancestors who came before them

“Middle Class” people focus on the FUTURE; delayed gratification like going to college, saving for college for their children, saving for retirement, limiting their debt.

“Lower Class” people focus on the PRESENT; they live for the moment. That is why they have so many bastard children and drive nice cars while they live in squalor.

“Underclass” people are members of the “Lower Class” who are so entrenched in a lower-class lifestyle, that it is unlikely they EVER rise above it. I think this is the Powell family.

I will bet a dollar to a doughnut she will get a second mortgage on that house to buy an Escalade. The bank will foreclose on that house and she will be living Section 8.

Daily Horoscope for January 2

Pisces

Do not overspend on redecorating. Say as little as possible and concentrate on matters in hand. Someone you care about will be erratic and eager to pick a fight. To move that great idea, you need to talk to the big spenders. Run the idea by them and see if you cannot get a backer and a partner for your concept.
