Public safety briefs: 85-year-old woman found in squalor dies in hospital
KANSAS CITY | An 85-year-old woman who had been allowed to lie for years in her own waste died at a hospital Wednesday.
Police questioned a man and two women last week about the condition of Hazel L. Byes after finding her in her soiled bed in the 5700 block of Forest Avenue. An ambulance took Byes to a hospital for treatment. Police released the three suspects, pending further investigation.
Authorities performed an autopsy Wednesday but did not release the cause of death.
Police said they planned to present a case file to prosecutors, who will consider whether to file criminal neglect charges. Read more
