Again, no one is addressing real control. If we look to the city for a lead here (give Brunswick a first for something, besides crime and prostitution) why not put cameras on the causeway? It would be a simple matter of placing two or three radar activated cameras on the causeway and send out tickets. After the first 100 or so speeding tickets are mailed you will see a marked reduction in speed on the causeway. A few signs aren't going to make any difference. A concrete barrier isn't going to reduce speed either.

The very much needed barrier wouldn't be in place to reduce speed. It would act as a literal barrier to keep the idiot drunks from swerving over and killing innocent drivers in the oncoming lanes.
The barrier would also serve as a deflector so when said idiot drunks hit it instead of another car they will bounce off of it and skid off the causeway or bridge and only kill themselves...hopefully. One less stupid drunk on the road the better.

Radar cameras are not legal in Ga nor should they be. Its big bro in 2009 instead of 1984.

Hasn't been a fatality on the causeway for over a year. I feel for those who lost loved ones due to drunk drivers by a barrier on the causeway doesn't really address the problem. A drunk anywhere else still has the ability to kill someone. Why not put your efforts into really stopping the problem. Systems exist that will prevent anyone impaired from starting a car. This cures the problem. A barrier only provides construction jobs for 2 months and waste a lot of money. If you care about saving lives then keep drunks off the road.

Warnin,
If you think that saving the life of an innocent person is a "waste of money" then you need to take a long look in the mirror. When someone you love is killed by a stupid drunk then you can sit back and chime in. This thread is about the causeway, not about drunks everywhere. If I had my way everyone convicted of drunk driving in Glynn county would be building the barrier for free while wearing 'I AM A DRUNK' t-shirts, for starters...

I agree Capn. Unless a law is passed requiring every vehicle in the USA to be equipped with a breathalizer... and even then a sober "friend" can start the car, those barriers are our best bet. I knew one of the people killed on the causeway by a car loaded with drunk illegals. Senseless. Drunks "everywhere else" can be "Warnin's" problem. The barriers will help protect the innocent from idiotic drunks here in Glynn County.
