Homeowner living in 2 towns wants twice the vote
“But I want to be like King Solomon, and divide the baby.”
More than 240 years after American colonists employed the slogan, a Lake Grove man has resurrected the famous rallying cry: Taxation without representation is just plain wrong. via Newsday.com

The man has a point.
if he has to pay tax into two separate, but equal, govenment juridictions, he should be able to vote in both. To blame the boundaries as hundreds of years old is typical beaucractic BS. Change the boundaries, or change the tax base, or let the man vote in each jurisdiction. It will never happen though, as town or county employees are only outpaced in their non-production by their federal counterparts. |

by the way, Newsday blocked out with four astericks the letters B and S adjacent to each other, as somehow it qualifies as obscene.

First of all you spelled juristictions wrong. Not sure I spelled it right either. But I bet he isn't paying twice the amount in dollars for taxes. The towns are probably splitting it. |

Okay, you got your pic in Newsday...you want to vote twice? Because you feel like it? Ridiculous.

The point is, he's paying taxes to both towns. They seem to think that his primary residence is in both towns.
I see his point. He should be allowed to vote in both at the local level. The problem is that the voting booths are not set up for it. It would be a headache to design a way for him and people in the same position as him to vote just for the local candidates in more than one town without giving them the opportunity to vote twice for county/state/national poisitions and referendums. It would be too much of an opening to voter fraud. |

HE SHOULD GET TO VOTE TWICE, HE PAYS TAXES IN BOTH SO WHY NOT GET TO VOTE ON BOTH
one person, one vote....yes,it's that simple.
Let him vote in Brookhaven and his wife vote in Smithtown.
The last thing we need is to bend this voting law for land owners. If the law is changed, then it will become a case of landowners against serfs. No thanks.

Seems like a typical rabble rouser...while one viewpoint says he should be able to vote in both localities...he only pays partial taxes in both so would only deserve a partial(half) vote in each town-yea voting machines would really accept that. AS for redrawing town boundaries, I'm sure he would think he gets to choose which town he is in and would end up suing for HIS choice..at our expense...ridiculous

Here's an idea, redo the election district lines. They do it nationally for the House of Reps every 10 years with the Census. Redraw the lines so they the lines are in streets. Nassau and Suffolk County have changed drastically in the past 100 years.

He should vote in every town he sends tax money to.
On Long Island, the over-taxed property owners ARE THE "SERFS". A big chunk of income goes to taxes.
Could someone please translate this into Standard English, "The house is in Smithtown - except where the corner where Brookhaven touches it?"
hey pal, your right to vote is based on your legal residence, which you are allowed one. Paying taxes is not a requirement to being able to vote. But you know this already...

Allowing him and those like him to vote in both townships would make a mess out of County, State and National Elections as they would appear on both booths in both locations. How do you limit voting twice on these elections and propositions? That might be possible only under an electronic system.
Maybe his taxes should be based on "where his bed is" |
Fix the district lines. Beyond that, who cares???
How stupid can you get? Abrahams needs something more to do.
I like the idea that they decide where you vote by where you have your bed. That proves that they prefer the public to be asleep when voting. lol
He pays a share of his taxes to each town not the full amount maybe he could vote partially in both elections. lol |
