Newton County barn fire kills 4-H animals
According to Brook-Iroquois Township Volunteer Fire Chief Kyle Conrad, barn owners Ryan and Jennifer Kindig, were at their home just west of Brook when the fire started, which killed 47 hogs and 5 goats.

Sixteen-year-old student csarnold photographed a snow drift next to the road in front of his home in Brook, Indiana, on January 6. He says there is no snow falling, but it is very windy and he's seen several cars slide off the roads.

Monticello man charged in Kentland robbery attempt
A Monticello man wanted for multiple crimes in Tippecanoe County was arrested last week when a conservation officer thwarted his armed robbery attempt at a Kentland liquor store.

According to the Department of Natural Resources, Lt. Dan Dulin was traveling in the area of 4th and Dunlap Streets in Kentland around 3:40 p.m., when he was flagged down by a male customer of Kentland Liquor Store.
Indiana state librarian retiring to pursue new interests; oversaw 2.5 million-item collection
