Angel L. Robles Sr., 55, was charged with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon. Robles was lodged in Cumberland County Jail with bail set at $15,000.

Kelly, who is seeking his second term as mayor after one term on city council in the strong-mayor form of government, will go with four of his current council members, plus the addition of Curtis Edwards, currently vice president of the Bridgeton Board of Education. Kelly will team with Council President Jack Surrency, Gladys Lugardo-Hemple, Mike Zapolski and Bill Spence, in addition to Edwards.

2 inmates escape from detention center

WABC-TV reports that 18-year-old Hakim Walls and 20-year-old Jermaine Jackson, both of Bridgeton, are considered dangerous. Officials say the two men and a juvenile inmate fled on foot from the Cumberland County Detention Center in Hopewell Township after they overpowered a guard Saturday night.

If Goldie had the right kind of help, she would have it open six days a week, like the good ol' days.

State Police Arrest Two Men for the Murder of Jennifer Cruz-Chavez

Detectives from the New Jersey State Police Major Crimes Unit, and Troop "A" Criminal Investigations Office, working in cooperation with the Cumberland County Prosecutor's Office, have arrested Jose Martinez, 27, and Omar Galvez, 34, both from Bridgeton, N.J., for the murder of Jennifer Cruz-Chavez. On Sunday, August 24, at approximately 4:35 p.m., troopers responded to Buckshutem Road in the area of milepost 4 for the report of a body being discovered by hunters in a wooded area located just off of the roadway.

Bridgeton resident finds burglar on roof after hearing noise, police say

BRIDGETON - Upon hearing noise on their roof, a city resident was surprised to see a man attempting to break into their house Wednesday afternoon, police said. According to the Bridgeton Police Department, the burglary attempt occurred Wednesday on the 300 block of Pine Street around 3 p.m. When they checked the roof, the resident saw a light-skinned black male that was approximately 5-foot-7-inches tall.

The memorial Stair Climb will be held at the 10-story, high-rise at 110 E. Commerce St., the tallest building in the city.

Neighborhood groups?; Upper Deerfield boom with alcohol; BEN Column, Sept. 10, first update

The column that asks, why aren't there more neighborhood groups in Bridgeton that could take care of smaller neighborhood problems and also bring pressure to bear on the powers that be to ensure that the problems caused by people moving into the neighboerhood are taken care of, because it seems only one person here and one person there are spekaing out, and it's not getting the desired results. Rain for the Jersey Fresh crops never hurts unless you're lying on the beach and water is running off your chest, and it's not salt water.
