Crash On Taconic Kills 8

If the parkways weren't so g-dmn confusing maybe these tragic accidents wouldn't happen. The Taconic and upper westchester parkways suck. They are like a maze, and god forbid you break down or if you miss an poorly labeled exit. There is no where to pull over or turn around. If you're not from the area it gets VERY confusing.

Yeah, when you are drunk and high, those road signs can be a real distraction.

Diane Schuler could have possibly taken Ambien to sleep. After all, she was in pain. Maybe she gave up after midnight and finally got out of bed and took a pill that someone gave her or maybe she had her own prescription for Ambien. That would mean she woke up at some point to find herself driving and it wasn't a dream. It was real. Talk about a nightmare. When the conscience mind is off, not engaged, then the subconscence mind takes over and is instead engaged ... not good.

It would be real hard for anyone to tell b/c they appear perfectly normal. They are functioning on auto pilot and no one can tell and they don't even know it themselves. I think Ambien can be dangerous.

One horrid, scary side effect of Ambien, that has made it into the main-stream press, is it's effect to keep people's brains asleep even though they have had 6-8 hours of sleep, and are awake (seemingly) and functioning. Functioning into their cars and driving off to work - while still chemically asleep in bed. I don't have the articles on this, but it was said that since Ambien started being mass-marketed, the number of early-morning car-crashes went up dramatically. And the police, researching the cause of this, blew the whistle that the responsible parties were using Ambien as a sleep-aid. Big Pharma Drug companies don't want this to leak out, so it will probably never come to light.

Toxicology report shows she had consumed a large amount of alcohol in her blood (double the legal limit) and there was still undigested alcohol in her stomach (meaning it would have been even higher once it absorbed into her system). Also she has a high amount of THC in her system, indicating she recently had smoke marijuana... I don't know if they tested for Ambien... but I think the alcohol and marijuana probably played more of a role in her confusion than Ambien in this case.

I agree, the Ambien theory is far fetched ... but not impossible.

I think this is what is going on with me and why I can't believe DS was drinking and high on pot while driving, especially with kids in the car.

My name (Jana) is correct but I do not live in Lakewood and do not know why it says Lakewood as the town I am in. I live near the border of NJ and NY. So, I do not live that far from where the accident happened and I have a daughter (who is only a few years younger than Diane Schuler) and a baby grandson. My daughter and son-in-law take my grandbaby and their nieces camping and I, myself, have fond memories of visiting many of Upstate NY's beautiful campgrounds. Anyway, my daughter and son-in-law do not always go home in the same vehicle, as sometimes they have to take separate cars since my son-in-law might need to leave unexpectedly for work. That is the nature of his job.

My daughter doesn't drink or smoke pot, or use any drugs for that matter. So, I guess this tragedy struck a personal nerve with me and I guess you can see where this is going. I'm trying to make sense of something that doesn't make sense b/c it hit close to home, so to speak. I'm also more inclined to give the benefit of the doubt and look outside the box for answers.

Also, I worked in Human Resources for 25 years. Some of the companies I worked for insisted on drug testing new hires/employees. There were occasions when OTC's, Over-The-Counter drugs were the direct cause of false-positive drug test results. The drug makers, Big Pharma, does not want this fact revealed so it is little-known.

I think if you google a phrase something like ... OTC's and False Positive drug tests ... or similar search phrases, the articles that surface might mention this.

I also think this horrific tragedy made a lot of people wonder how well they really know their loved ones ... including me. Jana

Did you ever wonder why a lab technician would have to settle for a boring and mundane state job that was basically dead end and lower paying that comparable jobs in the private sector? Because they weren't good enough to make it in the private sector, that's why.

Very, very true ... And as I said in a previous post, I worked in the staffing/hiring division of corporate Human Resources for 25 years and they typically (but not always) hire "the best & the brightest" with PROVEN track records who are referred in by someone who is ethical and has high standards. The truth is, most really good, qualified people are usually only passed over when something internally political is going on, such as an internal referral "give my kid a job" type of thing, OR a monster bully type of boss who only wants to hire a subservient slave, so good candidates who do not come across as subservient are denied/rejected. But those are not the norm but rather the rare exceptions.

Sometimes the State (and companies known for unethical practices) hire "yes" people who will go along with anything, including unethical practices. So, lab techs who work for the state ... well, you said it best.

Anyway, with all that said, when they ran the second set of comparison tox tests, why didn't they obtain a 2nd opinion, ie, have a different lab tech run the tests? I wonder if maybe they did do that but then they were too embarrassed to say ... "uh oh, we made a mistake", as they knew that could be costly, not too mention jeopardize their business, or worse, put them out of business. After all, who is going to hire or contract with the services of a lab testing facility who makes major mistakes like that?

I just find it real hard to believe that out of so many different family members on both sides of the family who saw DS, and on a regular basis, did not know she had a drinking problem ... real hard to believe that. At some point, even one of the older kids would have made a comment such as, sometimes mommy, or Aunt Diane acts weird, or something similar which would have been a clue. At some point, somebody would have noticed something if there was really a drinking problem and the in-laws would not have allowed their kids to go camping with them, especially since the campgrounds was a distance, a long 4-hour drive.
The fact that they all trusted their kids to DS, says a great deal about her character. Something is real fishy about the whole thing.

I think she went to mcdonalds to get a soda to pour her vodka in and drove from liberty drinking the vodka mix and 2 hrs later when she reached the taconic it crept up on her and she felt buzzed and then all hell broke out.

Ambien could also explain the drinking and smoking. She could have had a bottle in the veh, had some pot as well and involuntarily consumed both. When you take these medications, the EXTREME involuntary behavior IS the potentially deadly side effect. Who would knowingly consume a bottle of vodka and smoke a joint trying to get a load kids to a destination 100+ miles away at a particular time?
Ambien is what facilitates a person to unknowingly in plain sight engage in activities such as eating and drinking. Other witnesses claimed she was fine, and then not long after she went into the "zombie-like" mode. She also made phone calls, threw up (vodka may have been another beverage such as water to her, in that state)
We will never know for sure what happened, but this indeed would be a logical explanation for those who understand what these hypnotic sedatives are capable of doing to a person taken properly or not.

A person, such as an alcoholic, who has built up a tollerance to alcohol, does not simply "feel buzzed" then all "hell" breaks out. It simply doesn't work that way.

It was great motoring on it in my Trumph GT-6.

Didn't like the idea of side roads without exit or entrance ramps.
