Mason County Eastern's boys basketball team raced out to a 22-5 first quarter lead and cruised from there to a 80-54 Western Michigan D League victory against Brethren Wednesday night.

The Mason County Eastern volleyball team posted a 2-2 record on Saturday at the Western Michigan D League tournament and ended up falling to third place in the league's final standings.

Mason County Eastern's string of consecutive Western Michigan D League victories came to a close Thursday as the Cardinals fell to Brethren, 16-25, 25-12, 25-21, 23-25, 13-15. The Cardinals last lost within the league in the 2010 season when Eastern split the league title with Big Rapids Crossroads.

They have kept time for the polka dancers at the Brethren Days Celebration for more than 40 years, and also played Hoxeyville Homecoming and Harrietta Hall dances for decades as well.
