Clinton Showcase presents 'Godspell'
The Clinton County Showcase is ready to give audiences an encore of Easter when it presents the rousing musical 'Godspell' this weekend and next on its Breese stage.
It's Stephen Schwartz's fresh re-interpretation of the Bible that wound up on Broadway in 1976, with touring companies around the world ever since. The show boasts a score full of infectious melodies in a variety of styles, including 'All Good Gifts,' 'Turn Back O Man' and the ever-popular 'Day By Day.'
Adam Klostermann, of Breese, will make his Showcase debut as Jesus along with Tim Diekemper, of Smithton, as John the Baptist. The cast of 10 also features Marty Diekemper, Jenny Mondt and Lynne Huelsmann, all of Breese; Lauren Fuehne, of Highland; Charlie Pollmann, of Beckemeyer; Josh MacDonald, of Carlyle; Lizz Gloeckner, of Trenton; and Darlene Caviness, of Swansea. The production is directed by Charlie and Mike Huelsmann with Robin Netemeyer doing the choreography. Read more

A. Nearly two centuries later, people still wonder why Belleville, usually noted for its German heritage, wound up with a French name.
At least, George Blair, who donated the acre of land for the Public Square, had the good sense to use a word that translates into 'beautiful town.' (I guess Schnestadt or Hbschesdorf just didn't have the same ring to him.) Read more

State suspends Carlyle grain operator's license
The Illinois Department of Agriculture has suspended Carlyle grain operator The Grain Exchange LLC's license.
An administrative hearing will be held Wednesday, at which time grain dealer John Kniepmann, of Breese, may have his license revoked. The department has not revealed why it suspended Kniepmann's license or why it was pursuing revocation. Until then, the company cannot buy, sell, ship or receive grain.
Kniepmann could not be reached for comment.
The Grain Exchange LLC has operations in Carlyle, Sandoval, Germantown and Bartelso. It has a combined capacity of more than 1 million bushels. Read more
