Hinsdale, Keene and Claremont will be very pleased.

The tourists stopping for coffee will just stop in Putney.

How about a concerted effort to trim expenditures?
I think its about time we stopped looking for more money to spend and made some cuts in programs and services. It will take courage, but it is the only way to have long term sustainability.

just another reason to cross the river and get what you need and not what Vt. has to offer.Maybe you can sell sidewalk passes a different color each day or night so this way you can tax the people using the streets for hang out and a toll booth for cutting thru harmony lot. charge a user tax on micky wrapers and dunkin cups that are our rubbish kings
not sure

Out of towners spending money in Bratt. contribute to the town's economy already by supporting local stores.Could Bratt. residents solely support all the stores?

Doncha just love how it is just a measly 1%, as if no other taxes are aready in place, fuel, property, water and sewer, sales tax on the auto to get you there plus a 5% room and meals tax. It's like the crap they throw at you in the newspaper flyers "Only $99.99", so you're not spending one hundred.....They want fewer smokers so what do they do, up the tax. Want more money Brat? Get some tax paying businesses instead of leaching off the people that can't leave town (the poor)

I moved out. I had a very good paying job but couldn't afford the taxes. You send and spend. We were told on every new spending that it would pay for it's self, if not make money. The towns government has been and still is a joke, you send people and jobs to NH. If I put in a walk way or a new leaky building people will spend there money in Brattleboro and the extra taxes will be worth it. Wrong. Cut the taxes and get JOBS. Let people keep there money to spend in Brattleboro. It's not up to the government on how best to spend your money, it's should be up to you on what you want your money spent on.

When I moved I want from $137.00 per WEEK for my house and .28 A of land to $9.01 PER WEEK for 5+ A and a new house. Yes we have roads, fire and police. We do have a sales tax of 7%. I now can save or spend my money IF I want. New things for ME and not the town. Oh by the way we have jobs and more moving in as we don't tax them out. Surprise big box stores and mom and pop stores side by side, what's up with that? No one going across the river to save money? Just think about it. Brattleboro will be dead soon if you don't change.

You already have a 1% LOCAL meals tax on prepared foods. Adding a 1% LOCAL tax on other purchases??!! are you crazy? The town is already business / consumer unfriendly, keep it up , you'll have what all the woodchucks want a town void of inhabitants. How will you pay your bills when less people come to town? an additional 1% of nothing is nothing. Get your spending under control. Obama won't be bailing you out. and neither will the TAXPAYERS remember us? The people WORKING to pay the bills?

If you can find a place to park, and if you can find anything you can use in downtown, then pay a tax on top of other taxes? Good luck downtown merchants. NH and Mass look better all the time

If unoccupied parking spaces are scarce (and I have noticed the same thing), that's a sign that demand for stuff downtown is strong.
