BRADFORD -- A 22-year-old man from Newbury is facing a drunk driving charge in connection with an accident Wednesday on Vermont 25 in Bradford, said Vermont State Police.

On 12/30/08 at approximately 2200 hours, Troopers from the Bradford State Police Barracks were running radar on I-91 North in the town of Newbury.

NEWBURY, Vt. - Vermont State Police say actor Matt Dillon has been cited for speeding on an interstate highway.

How should towns nominate their town officer candidates?

That was the question posed in last week's edition in a story from Fairlee as some community members seek to change the nomination process in that town. In Fairlee, candidates for a selectboard seat and other officer positions are nominated from the floor at March town meeting. Shortly after nominations are offered, a vote on the candidates takes place.

It's a question that is a valid one, not just in Fairlee, but for many towns throughout Vermont as well. Bradford, Groton, Ryegate and Topsham all elect officers in a similar manner, while Corinth, Newbury, Thetford, Vershire and West Fairlee elect theirs by Australian ballot.

A daughter, Hayden Elizabeth Perry-Barnett, was born Dec. 1, 2008, to Jordan Barnett and Kristen Perry of Montpelier.

On the 90th anniversary of the end of WWI, a unique portrait of the Great War cavalryman and WWII tank commander was unveiled last week in a Veteran's Day ceremony at the old school building. It marked the return of a painting commissioned by Germans thankful for Harmon's role in rebuilding the country after the fall of Adolf Hitler. Harmon died in 1979 and was buried at Oxbow Cemetery in Newbury, but it wasn't until nearly a quarter-century later that a class celebrating its 50th reunion set the wheels in motion to return the picture to the building.
