Nampa candidate turns focus to Legislature, changes mind on party
By Kristin Rodine - krodine@idahostatesman.com Published: 11/04/09 The day after losing her bid to become Nampa mayor, Melissa Sue Robinson announced she will run for the state House of Representatives next year. Robinson said Wednesday afternoon she will run as an Independent in Canyon County’s 12th District. A few hours earlier, she said she would run as a progressive Republican, then sent a follow-up news release saying she had changed her mind because “I take ideas from both political parties.” Two 12th District House seats will be on the ballot: Seat A, held by 13-term incumbent Bob Schaefer, and Seat B, held by five-term Rep. Gary Collins.. Robinson, 59, is a Michigan native who moved to Nampa in February from Seattle. She is a credit manager in consumer financial services for Qwest. From the beginning of her run for mayor, Robinson planned a legislative race as her nex political step. She said she wants to help make a difference in her new home state, focusing on issues such as transportation and diversity. She advocates a Bus Rapid Transit system between Boise and Canyon County. She came in fourth in a four-way race for Nampa mayor, drawing about 3 percent of the vote in an election that sent Tom Dale to a third term with a tally of 70 percent. http://www.idahostatesman.com/westtreasure/st... |

IDAHO CITIZENS: This is 2009 and 2010 is coming upon us fast. The time for Idaho reform is now. We need to be progressive pertaining to better transportation in our capital area by having bus rapid transit lanes from Caldwell to Boise. Any municipality with more than 50,000 residents needs six council persons, four in council districts ,two at large, and we need all government meetings televised on cable.(THAT MEANS YOU NAMPA). We need civil unions for LGBT people so that they can have proper legal protection under the law. We need anti -discrimination laws and ordinances statewide modeled after "The Matthew Shepard Act" and Michigan's version of the Elliot- Larsen Act of 1964 that includes LGBT people. We need a new jail in Canyon County and we needed it yesterday. It was only going to cost an average of $30.00 per year for the average property owner AND YOU TURNED IT DOWN!!! Do you want all other states to get ahead of you, Idaho, or do you want to be winners (not just at Boise Stadium, but everywhere in this beautiful state?) IT'S TIME TO SHAPE UP, STOP BIGOTRY, AND PROMOTE GROWTH IN IDAHO OR THE WORLD WILL PASS YOU BY. THIS IS THE USA NOT THE COUNTRY OF IDAHO!!! FOR THOSE THOSE OF YOU THAT ARE PROGRESSIVE AND BELIEVE IN EQUALITY, THIS DOESN'T PERTAIN TO YOU. ALL OTHERS TAKE HEED.
