How does this happen?
So, the owner of the land and The Normcom guy went to County and got approved to put a retail store there Ingles at that time. Even though the Norcom website has plans listing Lowes Foods marked NOV 2008. But...somehow...they never had a contract to do anything? Yet they did have a contract that expired? In April 2009? Yet you can go to The Construction Journal website and see not one...not two...but three projected bidding and then three more Bid Requests. Norcom seems like they done a lot of work and planning and got the county to approve but then the Collard people said that Norcom wasnt a good buyer? Its not like they are trying very hard to get ANYTHING in there...sounds more like owners of the land wanna see what other offers they can get. Money. Money. Money. This story is very odd considering...hey remember when Anderson said we were getting a FIVE STAR Hotel behind Lowe's Hardware? How about the rumors about Target infront of Walmart that turned out to be JUST a SuperWalmart that although approved might not happen for another five years. |

1 They lost out big time and still are. They gave out a percentage bonus for the years you worked there. Then they went and called all the employees for a meeting...said we running out of money. They had every employee sign a paper stating to the fact, they get only half of what was due to them as a bonus, or, they could not sign it and get nothing. They claimed everyone would get the other half of that bonus when the money came in. Within that same week, they sold the Stanley plant for a good bit of money. Do you think the employees got the other half of the checks? Heck no, they went and paid one of the CEO's retirement once she decided to get out of there while they had money. I am talking a BIG BIG BIG retirement pension for that CEO. Then the next thing was we have no money again, and said that until the last brick hit the ground. NONE of the employees ever seen that other half of the checks and never will I don't guess. So I agree with you on that. He wants it allll !! |

Yeah, I can see how using the same bricks for the hospital is all green and a piece of history blah blah blah crap but really they could of had that place cleaned up with in two months or less. And with in the year Ingles/Lowes could of been up and running.
But it seems like they want to sell every inch of the remaining rubble. The one building they wanna keep open not sure what they will do in it but it needs work does it not? It has that falling walkway coming out from it. That needs to be replaced. I am sure they will have to repave the parking lot. I dont know how well that ground will hold up with the recent rain and the bricks and machines just sitting out. The possiblity of a retail center with a huge grocey store chain as the focus means a lot of jobs and a lot of choices to shop at. Look at how well Bilo has done with Walmart. I just figure if you are going to pitch something to the city/county and they approve it...then that implies you have plans to actually do it and will do it as soon as possible. Because it becomes public knowledge. They were writing about this since Nov08...people have been waiting for it. I think its gonna look weird anyway with the train track behind it and the rest of the old mill still there. |

1 Im not sure I wanna see the local talent at that stripclub ;)...well...okay maybe a few... Speaking of a Strip Club, when doing research for high school and later college I found out a few bars and tattoo parlors tried to get approved but were denied. In most cases with the excuse its not a good image. But you know what...if you had anything of value or entertainment in lincolnton people wouldnt have to leave town and spend their money else where. |

You hit the nail on the head there! I can see why our forefathers decided to split and become Catawba county... LMAO! "South of the Border" is pretty lame. |

The Food Lion in Lincolnton is an updated Food Lion. We use to have Roses and Food Lion over where Lowes Hardware and the current Food Lion is. Both got make overs and lincolnton has been going down the drain ever since retail wise.
You would think when they made the interstate it would of helped out. Ingles or Lowes is very different for this part of the county. I could careless. I just hope whatever happens they are able to bring some sort of selection. I noticed the Village Video part of The Tanning Place between Freds and Big Lots closed down. I only point that out because they are like four or five empty spots. You know how in Hickory they basically rebuilt that whole retail center was KMart was...I think you could do that at Big Lots expand the land greatly and still be able to keep Freds and Big Lots there. |

Yeah, they are lot of older people who love that lincolnton is a small town and they feel that bringing in "big box stores" will some how hurt the town.
Well...agree or disagree with that all you want but the fact of the matter is at one time we had Roses, Sky City, Walmart and a few other choices to choose from...and I dont not consider Big Lots or Freds on the same level as either of those...dispite their location. |

We don't need a Lowe's Food store. I remember the old one up where Big Lots is now. It was just plain filthy. The newer ones I'
ve been in out of town aren't much better. The new Ingle's at Dallas is a wonderful store as are the ones in Shelby (on 74 at 226) and the new one at Kings Mountain. They are clean, reasonably priced and their selection is just incredible. We need Ingle's nor Lowe's. |

btw, higher taxes, no store is going to be cheap now !!!

I buy my groceries at Ingles, and by far, they have the best selections and the cleanest stores.

Whenever I hear of "Ingles'(Ingalls), I think of "Little House on the Prairie"... RIP, Lil' Joe...
|

Thats actually their knock off brand...you know like how Bilo has Southern Home? Well, Ingles has Laura Ingle brand.
Yeah, I dont care what move heres price wise or not I just want some comp for Walmart. And I have nothing against Walmart either. I just think a Target or something of that nature to be in town against Walmart. That creates more jobs and hopefully a better season come Christmas and other holidays. |

The NorCom website has recently updated their page. I havent been to it in a few weeks so I just now noticed.
Newer Plans and more added to the descript. If they are no plans for such a store or building or whatever...then why are they allowing NorCom to put this infomation out there. http://www.norcomproperties.com/projects.html... I dont see the other company actively trying to get clients/tennants to move in and the clean up is totally dreadful. |
